On the eastern shores of Lake Windermere, Bowness is a sophisticated Lakeland village with a wealth to explore and enjoy. Stroll to the lake shore to hire a row boat or power boat, or take an elegant cruise on one of the Lake Windermere steamers. Windermere Lake Cruises depart regularly to Ambleside and Lakeside; a wonderful way to explore without even using your car; many guests choose to leave their cars in our private car park and make the most of the excellent bus and boat routes to explore the area.

There are several excellent restaurants in Bowness village, within walking distance of your apartment. There are also plenty of traditional Lakeland pubs, both in the village centre and the surrounding countryside and Windermere Golf Club is just outside Bowness village, on the way to the Lyth Valley. This area is also renowned for gentle but very scenic walking, with a wealth of acclaimed Lake District country pubs to choose from at the end of the day.

Close to the village, you'll find Blackwell, The Arts and Crafts House. This impressive property takes a stunning position overlooking Lake Windermere, and has a range of interesting exhibitions.

Join the A591 to Ambleside and Grasmere, and you can explore the homes of famous Lake District poet, William Wordsworth.

Another great idea is to take the car-ferry crossing over Lake Windermere from Bowness, to visit the former home of Beatrix Potter in Near Sawrey. From the ferry you can also walk along the sheltered western shore of the lake and on to the picturesque village of Hawkshead.
